We will again host the SKSS Thermal Duration contest as part of the ESL contest schedule. This is an AMA sanctioned event.
The contest tasks will be announced by the Contest Director (Man on Man; landing task: tbd). We will likely fly seven rounds per day and no flight after 3pm on Sunday.

The BEST BARBEQUE in the ESL will be available at field both days at a nominal charge. The food will be worth the trip to the contest!

This year’s contest took place on the two hottest days of the year so far. Helpers arrived at the field around 6:45am in dense fog and started setting up. The fog had only lifted marginally at the time of the pilots meeting at 9am. The CD delayed the start of the contest until 10:30am. A total of 28 pilots participated in the contest. The first round was 7 minutes duration and runway landing. As most pilots made their time, the following rounds were 8 minutes. The contestants broke for lunch after three rounds and enjoyed the buffet of goodies, as well as an opportunity to chill and relax in the shade. The conditions were challenging, with the leading expert finding himself in eleventh place later in the day. Sunday morning required setting up in a different direction, with the prevalent wind coming from the West at up to 10 mph. Following the pilots meeting at 9am, six rounds with seven minutes duration were flown before lunch to avoid the higher temperatures in the afternoon and to allow our guests to make their way home – as far as New Hampshire! All participants had obviously a great time and commented on their looking forward to next year. Thank you to all the helpers who endured the sun and heat and who made the event possible!
